I captured this female mallard in May this yr. The background is busy but I thought the colors blended well with the duck. Also like the wings up high on this one. I've tried everything in the book the get the wings like this but I think it boils down to luck and burst mode.

I like this one alot. Great take-off shot. The background normally would of been busy here but it is blurred just enough to make it a pleasing environmental setting and the duck is plenty sharp to make it pop from it.

Wonderful shot, Blackburnian! I completely concur with dancad's analysis.

Those ducks fly awfully fast.

They certainly do and they aren't dumb either. I tried hiding in the bushes last night and as soon as they saw me they just kept on going :(

Fantastic shot BTW

For me the duck and stump kinda pop out from the back ground, great work.

Is that over water, like an area of flooded timber?

Well done. Even though I generally pass up shots of mallards, because they are so common, your picture reminds me that there are still excellent images to be had.

Hi Zach,

This was taken right next to a wetland area and the stump was where she was sitting before deciding to fly off to avoid being "shot" by the guy with the white lens:lol:
