Hi All,

I have a project where I have a hand-drawn and scanned logo as a jpeg that I need to convert into something that I can put different backgrounds behind and also use like a watermark to put on photos that I have taken. Should I make it a vector? What would be the best thing to do? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

well you didn't really give enough info but - you can start with these ideas

do a save as - and save your artwork as a PSD file

PSD is the photoshop file

now you have a copy you can work on - now if you image has a different color background than the artwork you should be able to extract that background without too much difficulty.

U should be able to just take your logo and go to layers and copy it. Then take your copied logo and just drag and drop it from the layers palette onto the image you want it on, then adjust opacity.

What would be the best way to extract the logo from the image?

I used PS Elements, Magic Wand Tool, non-Contiguous, Tolerance of 30, one click to select all the white, then hit the delete key.

I have put a blue layer behind it for illustration. Everything that looks blue is transparent on your original image.

Might need a little refinement, but it is a starting point.

Why not try putting the logo on its own layer and changing the blend mode to Multiply?
That will eliminate the white background and you can put it onto any photo or different background.

Or you could put the logo on a transparent layer, and save it in a format that supports transparency.

for some reason when I tried changing it to multiply with one of my photo's it didn't show up enough.

Rimmer - thanks for the tip. I was trying to use the magic wand but I didn't realize it had to be set to non-contiguos.

Here's the photo I was trying it on. I added some glow and a drop shadow but it still doesn't look right. Any suggestions?

You could try increasing the vibrance or brightness of the logo and see what it looks like.
It's hard to make recommendations without know what look you're going for.
