No kidding, I'm a bit surprised they went with the 7d for this--5d2 is definitely superior.

Most Director's could care less about subtle differences in Video Performance between these two. Especially a director like Darren Aronofsky, who's preference is 16mm film over any digital camera.

I knew some of the darker scenes (like visually darker) were shot on digital because of the noise, interesting to see hear it was canon.

Hmm,
I am total new to this film photography.
So in what way 7D differentiates itself from 5D II? No essential differences at all?

They used both cameras and had specific reasons for doing so.

From the article linked by the OP:

"We used a Canon 7D or 1D Mark IV for all the subway scenes; I could just carry a 7D and shoot on the subway all day with a very small crew"

"
The 7D has more depth of field than the 5D, but I needed that because I didn’t have a follow-focus unit and needed to work really fast. I shot everything documentary-style. I did all the focus pulls by hand, and we’d just look at it on the camera’s monitor. I ended up shooting on a Canon 24mm lens at 1,600 ASA to get as much depth of field as possible at a stop of T81⁄2."
