i've seen a lot of photos out there where the eyes on the subject are just amazing and they seem to "pop" out of the picture.

My question is, how does one achieve this? care to share your pp work to get this effect?

There are various things that people do, of course starting with light as was mentioned above, then selective sharpening and learning to touch up the whites are a couple other things.

the biggest thing I would suggest is that you spend time in the People section of the forum and, when you see a post that "stands out", simply ask -- people here on POTN can be very friendly! Of course, there is also the Glamor and Nudity section, which, despite the title, is ususally pretty tame, just not something to have open in your workplace or around the kids or folks who might take offence:)!

Apart from lighting: What software? In LR3 there's an adjustment brush called "enhance iris". Over the top at default settings, but usable.

Things to do would be to sharpen, increase saturation, increase contrast, whiten whites, dodge around the edges of the cornea, add or increase the presence of the reflection in/around the iris. Im sure there are other things to do, but those are the main ones I think of.

Have you looked at the brushes available in the pull-down list?

I have a little routine. First I sharpen them once with USM at 50-2-0. Then I use the dodge tool and a soft brush and use the highlights at 10%, then the Midtones at 15%. Done.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Have a look at this tutorial by one of my favourite "teachers" - on dodge & burn.

Strange, I don't have any of these presets in my copy of LR3 (my preset list stops after 'Color'). Did you have to import these presets from somewhere?
