Hello all,

I've seen some of your awesome rolling rig shots and got inspired to try it out myself. I was a little skeptical of the Avenger F1000's holding abilities at first, and whether they would leave any marks or dent the car at all with the weight of the camera bouncing on an extended pole. I would like to try to get a bit of a higher perspective than I currently have.. any ideas or suggestions? I was thinking a Manfrotto magic arm?

Very nice photo, I've never experimented with camera rigs for rolling shots, hopefully someday!

Cool another Colorado member!

Thanks! Me either til I started lurking on the Rolling Rigs thread and saw some awesome stuff. What I meant to finish saying about the rig setup is that after seeing the whole pole and camera bounce quite a bit from pulling out onto the road, I am very impressed with the holding power of the suction cups and superclamps! And no damage to the car.

One last thing- what do any of you do about license plates? I'm not super skilled with cloning in PS, but figured getting rid of the actual #'s on the plate may be best as opposed to just the black bracket that is on the bumper

Thanks, Ahhh I'm jealous!

As far as rig set-up, I used Aridan's setup from the Rolling Rig DIY thread and it works pretty great

I used my 7D and a sigma 10-20 DC HSM lens

This was my very first attempt with it, I need to work on the cloning quite a bit though- I learned quite a bit about cloning on this first image, and I think I did much better in the one I posted above.
I have a roof rack on my car so I was trying to get it out of the picture. I also added too much motion blur in the far background and it shouldn't be blurred as much I realize, but here it is-

Thanks for the constructive criticism Nate,
Like I said, these are my 1st and second shots of this type ever, and I'm just starting to learn more extensive cloning in PS.

alright my point is, the shots are both a bad canvas on which to start. you need to go slower, or go on a smoother patch of road. or figure out if your camera mount is whats causing the shake. see how your backgrounds are mad blurry? that's not supposed to happen. IMO the sloppy rig removal is the least of your worries, master the shooting part first.

I think the problem was that I used a 10sec timer, ran to get in the car and let it roll in neutral and there was quite a bit of bounce from the opening of the door and me getting in the car. I was actually really surprised that anything came out clear at all really. The second photo I know was horrible, very first attempt and was very concerned about having the equipment get dropped. Thanks for the input

Like the motion, dislike the angle. I'd say as far as testing a rig, you've got yourself a positive outcome :)

you should have someone in the car already and just push it so theres very little movement of the rig. you'll get less bounce that way
