When using multiple exposures such as that, are you stacking them separately into individual images for each exposure, or together into a single image that is stacked from all the combined (averaged) exposures?

If you stacked them all into a single image the total exposure will be an average of the total sum. instead of 4hrs 36mn, it averages out closer to 1hrs 9mn.
I can understand taking different exposures if your stack them separately to later combine into a HDR type image. E.g. to combine the trapizium into the nebulosity so it's not blown out.
