I think the camera angle, trees and lighting combine to confuse the perception of which wall faces which direction, flattening the church across the image. Obviously a higher camera angle could have helped, but I do understand you're unlikely to have had any options. 5D and too much glass. Mamiya 645E.

My hotel room was such that I had to set up my tripod on the balcony with my 5D practically hanging over the railing, 13 floors up, to get the angle I needed.
