I love photographing families. It's so rewarding to be able to capture special memories for my clients. At the same time, it's also physically and mentally demanding. I spend a lot of time and energy preparing for sessions, everything from deciding on locations, talking to the clients about clothing, and visualizing shots, just to name a few. And of course, by the time a session is finished, I am totally exhausted. It seriously takes me a few days to recover!
Shooting one family unit is demanding, but shooting a multi-generational family takes it to a whole different level. My mind is in overdrive throughout the entire session. There are so many more shots to consider. I try my best to get everything from group shots to grandparents/grandkids to parents/kids to solo shots, etc. It is seriously a workout.
I recently got together with a nice family for their session. The mom wanted to include her parents in the session. In fact, I'll be shooting her dad's surprise 80th birthday in a few months. He doesn't look like he's about to turn 80! Both grandpa and grandma were really great during the session! The adorable twin girls were very active four-year olds. They just wanted to run around and play. I don't blame them.
Anyway, if you've read to this point, thanks! Here are just a few of my favorites from the session. The dad was a good sport, even though his right foot was in a cast and a walking boot. We just tried to find creative ways to conceal it.
Thanks for looking!
Tim

7. The mom said this shot really captured their personalities. I had asked the girls to jump together. The girl on the right side of the screen wanted to be the leader, but her sister (who's the older one by a couple of minutes) didn't want to oblige, so she pouted and walked away.
8. They then made up a few minutes later. It went back and forth like this throughout the session.
