I'm a student and paying my way through school, so I don't have $2000 to drop on an astrophotography setup.
I was wondering if there was a way I could come in and do some neat imaging on the cheap. I was wondering if I could use my current long lens (Sigma 70-200 f/2.8) as a telescope. I'd use that in conjunction with either my 1dmk2 or my xsi. I'd purchase the following:
1) Celestron CG-4. I see these newish from adorama for under $300. I'm hoping I can score a used one, but I could afford to buy one of these new if I saved up for a month or two.
2) Possibly a light pollution filter. I see there is an astronomik snap in filter for EOS cameras that would fit in my XSi.
I know I'd need some sort of hardware to mount my lens collar on the mount, probably a spotter scope and whatever motor drives the equitorial mount as well.
Would this work, and could I expect to get any reasonably interesting images from this after a few months of practice? Or are there better options?
