Hi all,

Installed Lr3.3 on MBP. have downloaded the Nik Software suite and installed yet they didn't come up when I searched from LR....

Went to external editor and added Silver Efex as external editor but no room to add the others?

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks
Phil

Create Export Presets by setting the bottom row ("Open in ...) in the Export dialog to the various plugins.

Interesting. I have a MBP with LR 3.3 installed and the complete Nik suite and I'm pretty sure they installed automatically.

Thanks Tzalman, that worked although didn't see a default option as to where to save the file afterwards, it automatically saved it in silverefex.

And also am I supposed to go to export each time and select whatever external editor in bottom row or can i save the action as a preset action somehow and open it from toolabar along the top?

Thanks for your help

Export presets appear in the panel on the left side of the Export page, but they also are in the menu that opens if you right-click on the image, as a sub-menu under Export, and additionally in the File menu > Export with Preset, so you don't have to actually open the Export dialog.
I have my presets set up so the 16 bit ProPhoto tif is written to the original folder and added to the catalog. Did you create the presets by clicking "Add" at the bottom left hand corner of the Export page? I forgot to say that in my first post.

I meant installed and available for use as shown below. They should all be available under the "Edit In" menu; you shouldn't need to set up any Export presets.

All of the Nik apps should have had the external editor capability installed automatically IF YOU DID THE INSTALL FOR THE LR VERSION OF THE SPECIFIC NIK APP. If I recall correctly, some of the NIK apps have two different versions, one for photoshop and one for lightroom or aperture. You have to run both installers to get the Nik Selective Tools to install in PS and the "Edit In" capability to install in LR, at least on the Mac.

Good point Kirk. I couldn't remember if you still had to do that or not. I did notice that the installs didn't do a good job of cleanup, hence the two copies of some of the plug-ins, once I installed the 64 bit versions, but I just haven't had the time to clean it up.

If the Nik plugins were not installed appropriately, or you install a newer version of Lightroom, sometimes it can screw up the Edit In menu.

You can manually add the plugins to the Edit In menu by going to Edit > Preferences > External Editing

Go halfway down to "Application:" and click "choose" and then navigate to the Nik program folder and click on the executable file for the individual Nik plugin. Once you've selected the program executable, go up one line to "Preset:" dropdown menu, and choose "Save Current Settings as New Preset". You can then enter any name for that plugin.

Go back to "choose" and repeat the process for all the other Nik plugin executable files.

If you have Topaz Adjust or DeNoise, you can launch them from Lightroom by downloading the free Topaz Fusion Express.

You would then add the topaz Fusion Express executable to the Edit In menu. Then when you launch Fusion Express, it will then let you launch Adjust or Denoise from within Lightroom.

If you were able to add Silver Efex to the external editor, then that means that was installed as Lightroom. You would not have been able to add the Silever Efex Photoshop plugin (since it's not an .exe file).

That means it must've installed the Lightroom plugins but didn't add itself to the Edit In menu. If all the other Nik plugins have executables, then they are for Lightroom, and you can add more than one by doing what I wrote 2 posts up.

When did you download it? If you got the 32 bit versions of the other plug-ins, they won't show up unless you tell your MBP to run LR as 32 bit.

Just checked and they are indeed LR apps, not sure what I have done.....arrgh.....I transferred them from my pc so maybe they are 32 bit, not 64?
Anyone know how I check this.....
