Hi all,
First, I'm a noobie around here, so don't beat me with your tripod for a potentialy stupid question! :p

Anyway, I have been trying to post some pics in the pet section and getting poor results. If you see my post here:
https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=437211&page=44

You can see that my pics look extremely poor compared to everyone elses. The originals were very nice quality (rare for me!) But to fit the size requirements (150kb/jpeg) I had to shrink them down to like 700x700 or so, and reduce the quality (in the canon factory editing software) to 4 or 5. The end result is a crap looking pic. Everyone else has big clear pics. What am I doing wrong that they are doing right?

Thanks in advance, this is a great forum to learn from!
Aaron

The original pics were (at least by my standards, and certainly compared to what I ended up with) very crisp and bright though. Its not like they were crap to begin with.

Probably the best bet is to use another program to save them. Also it would help to host them at another site like flickr and then embed rather than attach them.

Another vote for the flickr suggestion.

I export my photos from lightroom at 1024px and around 450kb and then upload them to flickr. I find the quality is more than good enough then.

See here (external link) for an example.

Photobucket used to be awful because of their compression method. I've seen some shots recently hosted there that were okay so perhaps they have changed to the better. If not flickr is free.
