Walking through one of our parks, this little guy surprised me:

It looks alright here, but when I do a 100% crop it seems abysmally... disgusting. Granted I was shooting at 1/160, f5.6, iso 100, and all the way out at 400mm. To get it sharper should I have a higher fstop? Like f8 maybe? I haven't tried shooting in RAW yet, as I have little to no experience with PP. I did some on this capture, but not much (contrast, tone and color).
Here is a 100% crop:

Any suggestions? I haven't ruled out that it may be my dismal camera body (dear Santa, please bring me a 7D).
thanks, b-rice
