For those of you who use a netbook as a portable storage device, what software do you use?

I am going on vacation and plan to shoot many images each day

I was thinking of loading Canon ZoomBrowser on my netbook so I could transfer RAW files directly from camera to netbook then preview images and delete the stuff I don't want. Later I will do processing on my home computer

Would ZoomBrowser software take up too much disc space, will it run slowly on a netbook with 1G RAM ?

Is there a alternative to ZoomBrowser.

Thanks

FastStone image viewer, it allows you to view the raw image or the embedded jpeg.

Great for reviewing and culling images.

You may want to try Irfanview...I use it to view and delete pictures on my laptop before I run DPP...I have it installed on my Asus Eee netbook:

Make sure you get the plug in that will allow you to view Canon CR2 files (along with a few other formats)!

^This - it will also allow you to do some simple editing and resizing even of your raw files so you can post some jpegs up here while you are traveling :-)

Downloader Pro and BreezeBrowser Pro. They're all I use for downloading/tagging files (including geotagging). Canon's software demands a 1024x768 resolution screen or it won't run.

this is a very important item... most netbooks dont meet the resolution requirements, and aside from "hacking" them to falsely change the resolution, you wont be able to run the canon software. it can be done, but it is not something that the average user is familiar with.

I use a Toshiba netbook when traveling and I installed PSE8 on it. Isn't bad. Then I use an external hard drive for back up.

Will your Netbook take another gig of ram? If so you can get a 2 gb stick for about $30. I put the extra ram in my Asus Eee a few weeks ago and it really helped it. On the Asus I had to go into the bios and save it before the Netbook would recognize it.

I did the same with my Toshiba netbook. It's so cheap to upgrade to 2gb... :)
