Hey guys and gals, I'm new to motor sport photography but have always loved it, Here's a few from the weekend. Please feel free to critique as any comments are welcomed,
Please remember this was my first time with my new canon 50d and a 70-200 f2.8L lens.
I took approx 3500 pics,(As I wanted to enjoy the races as well)
95% were from behind the spectator fences
Deleted 1000 straight up due to blurry or OUF.
Came up with 70 half decent ones, So here are a few of the better ones

hey mate,

there's some good ones in there. I especially like the 2nd one (lowndes with a bit of flame)
and the last 2 of courtney.
I know you didn't intentionally capture the fist in the foreground as courtney crossed the line, but i think it kinda works with the whole shot.

Also the shot of Ingall sticking into the tires is a great capture.

On the Lowndes shot, notice that you've left him some room to go in the frame... ie, the car is positioned on the right of the photo, and would exit the shot to the left. You have left some room on the left hand side of the shot, and this makes the picture work. (that, and the nicely captured flame)
in the couple pics below (GT and brightey), there is more room behind the cars than in front. Really, you want that to be the other way around.
Just something to work on as you go. If you have cropped these pics any, then it's just something to take notice of next time you do so.

All in all a great effort though. I know how hard it is to navigate the street circuit fences!
Nice work. Hope you enjoyed your weekend (rain and all)

Mitch, despite that inconsiderate credentialled photog who got in your way (dunno who that may have been) I wouldn't complain too much about that Courtney celebration shot.
Good job.
By the way, the rest are pretty good too.
That shot of Taz Douglas (#1) is a cracker and as Brett said the fist pump of the punter in the Courtney shot is a gem.

Regards, Phil

Thanks guys I really appreciate it. Phil can you see that blur in the top right hand corner of the Courtney, I think that's your Elbow or some other appendage.
I'll see those shots and see if I can crop them a bit different.
Over all i'm pleased with the results. Got a couple of good ones, Cant wait till I can put on one of those 'Media' vests, Get some better ones then. But thats probably a long time off....
