These surfers were so far out that I had to use 1400 mm to get them a bit bigger in the frame.

Shooting info - all clips were filmed with a Canon 7D + 500 f4 IS + stacked Canon 2x/1.4x TCs, 1400 mm focal length, manual focus and manual exposure, 475B/3421 support, San Juan beach, La Union, Philippines.

Music - "Big Rock" by Kevin MacLeod (royalty free).

Awesome, looks like those teles cut quite a bit of sharpness from the lens though. How close to the water were you?

Thanks, I'm right at the water's edge, and the surfers were probably as far as 400-500 meters away.

The 500 + 2.8x TC is still very sharp with video if focus is precise and at closer subjects. In this case however, I stopped down to about f/22 - f/36 to have deeper DOF. Imperfect focus + diffraction effects + atmospherics reduced the apparent sharpness.

Did you use a fluid head or gimble?

I used a Manfrotto 3421 gimbal head, as I find it much easier to follow the fast action with than my Manfrotto 516 fluid head. I now use the latter mostly on slow pans such as walking birds. For birds in flight and fast action like surfing, I prefer a gimbal head.
