Our studio offers "first baby" session free when booked as a wedding client. After hundreds of weddings is this a good idea? Of course it is!! Bring our clients back to our studio again and again.

I am kinda hesitant about offering maternity/baby photos with my wedding packages...what if the couple can't have babies? or has problems concieving? just my 0.02.

I can understand your concern. I believe it is the "thought" that counts.

Of the hundreds of weddings we have completed we have not run into any issues. And, it has expanded our business a bunch....Dan

Interesting idea. I like the other poster's idea of making it "or a free aniversary shoot" too. It's an oppurtunity for print sales & keeps you in their minds which can lead obviously to referals and oppurtunity's to shoot other events in your client's lives.

i think that is a great idea. i wouldn't worry too much about the possibility of fertility problems cropping up, that's a roll of the child bearing dice that nobody can anticipate. you could offer it up as "special moment" which could be anything, an anniversary, pregnancy, whatever, if that is an issue for anybody. The main thing is that you have them coming back to you!

i think this is a very good strategy, and its also called bundling :0). in the b2b world, most companies make their money out of repeat customers. although first sessions are free, because these are their first baby, there's always a big possibility of couples getting the 'upgraded' package :)

... does it really matter?i see with my eyes, i shoot with my fingers.

I don't think the issue of not having a child is going to effect the business. If someone cant conceive that wouldn't normally announce it to someone doing business. And it may be some time before the realize they cant. If that's the case, its not like there going to call up the business and and say "hey we cant have a baby".

We photographed a gay wedding a few years ago. Tracy and Sherry were delighted with the idea of a first born photo session.

Sherry had artificial insemination and gave birth to boy-girl twins. We photographed the twins and so far the family seems to be very happy.

Just to clarify, do they get the whole thing for free or just the session fee for free and you still make some cash on the print sales? Not sure I'd be too interested in doing it if I wasn't making plenty on the back end, goodwill is all well and good, but working for nothing sucks.
