No. The V5 is completely different. The V4 used a 433Mhz rf frequency and the V5 uses 2.4Ghz.

But that doesn't mean you can't use both at the same time. Just two parallel systems using the same trigger source. More about that later though.

first off ; this is not a thread jack, only an attempt to gain knowledge and spread what i've learned.

is the 2.4ghz over the 433mhz the only difference between the two systems internally? I know 2.4Ghz is a better frequency (hell my brothers radio controlled planes run on that and they CANT have 'drops') but WHY is it a better frequency? I have been using the pt-04 tm system for some time now (modified of course ;) ) and the only time i have problems is when i get behind an object, like a chair, or bushes, where there may be something blocking the line of site...or i hit a 'dead spot'.

just curious WHY 2.4ghz is better. does it reach farther, or is that only a matter of the antenna tuned to 2.4ghz (or 433mhz)? is it just less 'busy' at the frequency so less interference? or does it just mean it's more consistent? someone w/ some frequency knowledge come in and school me :)

The bigger the frequency, the more reliable(lower attenuation, etc) the communication turns to be for bigger distances.

Thats why you have VHF/UHF frequency for television (up to GHZ)
or FM/AM for radio (up to MHz)

Thanks for posting this Pham. Pretty cool you got in on the beta. Can't wait to see more results.

I've been using Cactus V4's for a couple years now and they work great. A bit cheap on the construction side, but for 40 bucks what more can you ask for!? I'm glad to see they did away with the cheapo plastic antenna. These look more solid. Would you agree?

Sweet! I've actually never heard of them until recently
I was kinda skeptical because of how affordable they were
but I've heard some great things so i'm excited :D

Hopefully they get here soon :)

do you know if the cactus' work with calumet's genesis line?

Cause I have a 580ex II which i know will work
but I also have a few Calumet Genesis 400 strobes as well that i'd like to try the receivers on

I hadn't used my iShoot triggers for a while and when I went to use them this morning I couldn't get more than 6m out of them - even with fresh batteries and some antenna wiggling - so I'm looking to replace them. The amount of options now is pretty impressive/daunting.

Has anyone ever done any stress-testing of the shoes on cheap wireless triggers? Hanging an expensive flash on something so cheap always worried me a little. It's not much of an issue when it's perfectly vertical but at 45 degrees it starts to be a concern.

Looks like your Calumet Genesis 400's use a mono sync cable. It should work just fine... You get 3 adapters for strobes... I have a 580EXII also it works great on the V5.
