Hello,

I have this anoying issue with Adobe Lightroom when importing CR2 (550D) images to catalog. It seems that it is applying a filter or something because the picture looks OK for just 2-3 seconds and then it completely changes the color settings.
The pictures are shot using sRGB colorspace, and with ZoomBrowser EX they are displayed as shot, but Lightroom or Photoshop completely messes the colors after import.

Please check the JPEG files attached. The first one is exported from ZoomBrowser, second from Lightroom.

Im sure there is not a monitor calibration issue... what am i missing?

 Thanks!

In ZoomBrowser i can't find any ICC profile setting and in Lightroom i am exporting JPEG files with sRGB colorspace.

In Lightroom there isn't just the export which is wrong, importing files (view-ing them) is also totally wrong. The second picture is a Screenshot from Lightroom Loupe view.

When LR first loads your image it displays the embedded jpeg, produced by the camera using the in-camera settings. It then applies the default develop settings. First of all, make sure you have the 'Develop Settings' in the 'Apply during import' box set to 'None'.

Then check your develop settings. My guess is that your default camera profile is set to 'Adobe Standard'. Import an image, go to the 'Develop' module and, near the bottom of the tools on the right-hand side, is a box labelled 'Camera Calibration'. Make sure that's open and change the entry for 'Profile' to 'Camera Faithful'. You image should now look more like what you see in Zoombrowser.

You can have a play with some of the other profiles to see what they do. And maybe fiddle with some of the other develop settings. Once you've got things looking the way you want them hold the 'Alt' key and you'll see the button in the bottom-right change from 'Reset' to 'Set default...' Press that button and those settings will be applied the next time you import.

I'll just add -- ZoomBrowser (and Digital Photo Professional (DPP)) by default show in-camera settings and will convert to a jpeg-like rendering. Lightroom can't "read" the in-camera settings so will apply some kind of profile which may not look like the DPP "jpeg look".

I advise people to install and use DPP as a "reference" as they are getting used to working with an app like Lightroom and using it for "quick" conversions until you get used to Lightroom.

Of note: if you take your shot into DPP and change the Picture Style to Neutral, you will likely see something much closer to what you see in Lightroom. This could give you a "clue", if you take the time to examine the factors that go into a Picture Style.

And, by the way, the second shot is over-saturated which is a good example why, in such settings, a Neutral Picture Style can be a good place to start:)!
