So many people don't buy "supermarket" brands but instead so after the heavily commercialised names when often the actual product is identical just in a different coloured packet.

'Evian' comes to mind.

It just so happens that Evian spelled backwards, is Naive.

Funny...innit?

Exactly right, He's catering to those High End Customers. Will he leave a mark on the History of Photography? Time will tell.

I was just looking at some of his pics. The asking price for a pic called "Island Life" is $48,000. There is noting special about that pic, and for that kind of money. I'll fly out an take my own pic.

You have to hand it to him. He knows how to market his work, and is making a butt load of money in the process.

Show me something special about any pic. It is not the pictures that he is marketing...it is Peter Lik.

So was in Las Vegas this week and Peter Lik has two galleries. One of them has a copy of "the book" in it and it's out for display.

It's nice, no doubt, but not worth $20,000. His work is nice, but Peter seems a bit over the top for me.

He apparently has a show on the Weather Channel starting soon and they were showing highlights in the gallery. He's very interesting, to say the least.

However, Peter Lik is significantly more successful as a photographer than I am. I haven't sold a single print, while he's sold one for over $1 million. Would that we could all be so blessed...

Not my cupa tea but he's a fellow photographer and any if us are free to make a book market it and sell it for whatever price we then we can get for it and if he's keeping the prices high because he values and doesn't undersell his vision then more power to him I say. At $45 it wouldn't be on my list but thats me.

I am sure many people think they can act, but their name is not Tom Hanks so they don't make $20m per film. Many people can play guitar, but their name is not Slash or Eric Clapton, so they don't get to work on any project they want. Once you have achieved star status, you get to demand star money. Life's not fair, but if it was we'd probably all live $5 a day and a cup of rice.

I guarantee he will sell out of those books in record time. Peter Lik is a master business man, he sells prints in his studio for thousands.

The whole time I was reading this forum, after I got past the fact that someone was selling 40lbs of paper and ink for $2000, I found myself wondering three things. Exactly how many books has he sold? Who is buying his book and where can I get a list of his clients because I would gladly make a similar book and sell it for a 'one time special rate of $1999! ' and What was the production cost because I'm dying to know what his profit is!

It's not about paying for the book, it's a matter if you love the pictures.
