Image #1: Straight-on shots of a person's face are rarely flattering, and as a rule of thumb, they should not be taken (However, like all rules of composition, it is a rule that can be broken under certain circumstances). If her head was turned a few degrees to the left or right, and her eyes looked at the camera, the image would be more appealing, as a portrait. (I am not saying that she looks bad in the image. She looks quite lovely. It is just a way to make the image more dynamic and interesting.)
