When trying to print through LR3 using an Epson 1400 my prints are almost a full stop darker than what I see in LR. The print preview through the 1400 shows the image much darker as well (compared to what is seen in LR). I have the driver for the 1400 installed in LR and I have color management turned off in the 1400's options. My monitor is calibrated with Spyder.

Any idea where the problem lies? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

It's most likely one of 2 things and maybe a combo of both. First try viewing your print under different lighting conditions, remember the print doesn't have a light behind it pushing the colors at you as the monitor does. You may have to lower the brightness of your monitor and recalibrate.

Hmmm....the brightness of my monitor is at a 30 out of ?100.

What's strange is the printer preview on my monitor is much darker than what I see in LR.

If I overexpose the image in LR then it looks about right in the printer preview and in print, but its a guessing game. I would like what I see in the printer preview and in print to match more closely with what I see in LR.

Although the technique described here:
http://www.lightroomforums.net …ts-when-printing-from-LR2 (external link)
is in regard to an Epson 3800, it works well with my R1900. Of course that may mean nothing regarding your R1400, but it might be worth a try.

P.S.: I just noticed the addition that was added to the original post saying that he no longer has the problem with LR3. When I updated from LR2 to LR3 I continued to use the technique without thinking about the possibility that the bug might be fixed because I continued to get accurate prints. I imagine I will leave the driver with the trick setup on the principle, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," although in this case it's more "if the fix works, don't unfix it."

hmm, I can't really say much more than I did above and I did say what I said with the assumption your driver and rendering intent have been set properly. I have found that in most cases with a dark print that the monitor was too bright and had to match the monitor brightness with the print. I'm sure there are about a dozen or more things that can cause a dark print but this is the most common.
