Glossy Ibis, yes another Ibis lol

If the posts are starting to get boring lol please feel free to say so. I never get bored of being out and shooting and theres so much birdlife about of late. This is a Glossy Ibis, the smallest of the Australian Ibis, found about inland waterways, coastal wetlands and pretty much can be found almost anywhere except the deserts (common fact of most water birds lol). I'll try to post something other than an Ibis next time lol.

Very nice. Nothing wrong with getting shots of Glossy Ibises. They are beautiful birds and strangely difficult to get a good shot of. You have done that! Most people think they are just black or brown birds, but they are very colorful.

They are a prettier ibis compared to the others (bird wise) Where are you getting all these birds.
You must live near a wetland down south?

I would never get bored either with such great subjects to capture.

I'm quite lucky Peter, I live right at the southern edge of the Metro area. Down here I'm couple mins drive from the beach, wetlands, hills and fields, rivers, open park lands, national parks reserves and then only a short drive to country areas. I get a great deal of the subjects around the Onkaparinga river not too far from the mouth. Theres a few quite large reserves around there. Theres also some other ones not far away on the coast. I get a few at some of the forests not far from me like Kuitpo forest.

Then I go further down south to Goolwa and Victor Harbour out to large the national park at Newland Head. A few of the birds I go to the north side of town were I know some are kept, and theres always the walk-in-avery at the zoo but not always so easy in there for good shots with all the people and kids running through. The rest I get from other states when I travel, but most of the captures I get are just around the river and wetlands right here down the road from where I live.

Great shots! Are these two the same species? The second pic (bird facing to our left), looks much like the glossy ibis of the American tropics and, at least in this view, very differnt from the first pic. Fully agree with you love of being out there seeing things!

I believe they are both the same species, I've not seen the American bird. It is a different bird in each capture though. Maybe just the lighting,angle and wet plumage make it look different. But as my wife always say's lol I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure they are the same speices, mainly becuase we only get 3 species of Ibis in Australia and the other two have significant amounts of white.
