Although I've known about this place for a few years now, I just never bothered to go for a visit. There are a lot of tame deer from the many people who feed them.
So, on a particularly slow day watching the same birds at a local feeder, I finally decided to go for a visit. While there I counted more than a dozen deer including does, fawns and a couple of bucks. The deer are resident year round at that location, part of the National Capital's green belt system. Comveniently located across from the Hazeldean mall in Kanata, the old Quarry Trail has a nice population of very tame deer (well, the buck are less tame but still come close).
If you do a search on the web for "old quarry trail kanata" you'll find many other photos of deer from other photogs including this one: http://www.flickr.com …y%20trail&w=8273371%40N07![]()
This buck photographed in the warm sunlight with a Canon 40D and 70-200 2.8L Lens and TC 1.4x. A good wildlife combo.

And it was mild. It was the perfect day to see the deer.
