No need for apologies.

Lots of useful information and opinions have been provided for you to better shop
for a display more to your liking.

fwiw i just spent a couple of hours looking at laptops in best buy and a couple other computer stores. it's absolutely amazing how different each laptop screen is, and how horrible so many of them are. poor contrast, blue tint, red tint, etc..

i saw every major brand except for dell, and the clear winner for best looking screen was the 15.5" sony vaio. i saw 4 of them and they were all fantastic, colors were great, opened up a blank page, whites looked good. there was an hp that looked great too, but there were 9 hp's that looked terrible. i'd say second place goes to acer, some really nice screen and only a couple crap ones.

I have to admit... It turns out that another POTN member lives just a couple miles from me and he brought his new MBP over to my place. I was really impressed with it and I'm not a Mac guy.

Sadly, the best display I own is my iPhone 4. I only wish my laptop or desktop could perform as well as this phone does.

iPads have a IPS display, if you just need to show off photos, grad a iPad.

another thing to note... you could have 4 sealed boxes of the exact same model and all 4 could be a different panel.

So what you see on demo at your local shop may not be the exact panel in the sealed box you get.

I needed a good laptop to do editing on the road (I'm finding that clients really like to see the photos at the event and tend to pre-purchase them). Anyway, Lenovo recently had a 20% off coupon for the w510 with the RBG display and I took the plunge. Not a bad price really with the coupon ($1295). If you can hold off for another one of the coupons you might want to look into the W510... so far I'm really liking it.

For a laptop computer? Not likely, unless a particular make/model has been offered with different displays of different technologies. Even then, the specific machine may not be one to support all available display types offered from the manufacturer.

Well, just thought I would give my .02 Cents worth of info....

Depending on what your budget is and how much weight you are looking at possibly adding to your back-pack (Thinking about your photography equipment and room for a laptop), I have found what is about 6 months of debating and also many....many reviews read.

Mac, is great if you have the money and also have been using a Mac for a long time, although the cost of a 17" laptop is quite expensive.

Since I am a PC person (I also own, a iPhone, iTouch, and iPad) but I have always used and feel comfortable with the PC.

Here is what I found, and also what I paid a the end of the features that this bad boy cost:

*HP Envy 17"
*17.3" Full HD (HP Ultra Bright View Infinity LCD Screen)
*Intel Core i7 - 920 QM Processor
*8192MB DDR3 SDRAM
*1920 x 1080 HD LCD Screen
*640 GB of storage - (Dual 320 GB Drives (Will be upgrading to SSD and 1 Terra Byte of storage.)
*ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 Graphics Card With 1024 MB of Dedicated GDDR5 dedicated Graphics memory
* 6 Cell & 9 Cell Battery
*Blu-Ray Drive/Burner
*Full Aluminum Chassis
*Back Lit Key board

All of the above was under $1,800.00

I am only giving you my opinion and since I have calibrated my screen, it is amazing and almost never want to turn on my desktop. Since I am one to carry all of my equipment where ever I go, I am not too worried about the weight, as this is only a few extra lbs.

Again, just my .02 Cents worth, so I hope that you find the laptop that fit's your budget.

Wow! I picked uo the same exact Envy 17, but 3 differneces. 1, mine is without a Blu Ray, 2, with a 1TB HDD instead of 640gb, and 3, Core i5 580 (2.66ghz with 3.33 Turbi Boost) everything else exact, but I paid $1,900, so I guess you got a better deal than me, as HDD's are dirt cheap these days.

But this is the best PC laptop you can get for photo editing. Tons of RAM, most bueatiful screen out there.

Not regrets, I Love it!!

Actually, it's a pretty good all around laptop - but they've made some changes since it first came out to lower costs.

A truer photographers/artists laptop would be the Lenovo W701ds, Apple MacBook Pro line, some HP EliteBook's and Dell Precision M4400 or M6400. Mind you, that they are not more powerful computers, just better suited toward artist professionals. A good IPS screen on most laptops would shore up any differences - though, it would put the total cost right up there with the aforementioned laptops :)

It is a very nice upgrade from my last HP laptop. it is very fast although I have gone thru 3 of them due to processor getting way too hot, to lifted key board and my last one didn't have all 8MB of RAM, so I RMA'ed it and I am on my 4th one with no problems what so ever.....my next purchase is going to go with a SSD for all of the programs and if I can afford it down the road I will buy a second one.

No regrets either, but I was getting frustrated a little bit with having to go thru 3 of them to finally have my final one that seems to be working flawlessly.

I run multiple programs and it is finally nice to not have my laptop lock up or start to slow down....great purchase for the money.
