need recommendations, super wide prime or super wide zoom for my 10D:

sigma 12 - 24 f4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM
sigma 15 - 50 f3.5-4.5 EX DG DF
sigma 17 - 35 f2.8-4.0 EX DG HSM
canon 17 - 40 f4 L USM

canon fisheye 15 f2.8

any thoughts, anyone have any of the above?

depends on if you need that extra range. primes are nice because they are faster i'd go with that sigma 12-24 or the canon 17-40 personally. also look at the tokina 12-24. lots of folks love that lens.

Love the 15mm f/2.8. It's a great value. Aside from the no USM, its a solid lens. On a 1.6 crop it does a mighty fine job without much distortion.

Some sample pictures.

I just ordered the Sigma 10-20mm this morning. You might not wanna rule it out if you're not thinking about getting a camera with a larger sensor anytime soon. Plus its like 200 bucks cheaper than the Sigma 12-24mm.

Set up: Canon EOS 20D, Canon 50mm f/1.8 II, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, Canon 70-200mm f/4L, Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5.6, Canon 420EX Speedlite TTL, Battery Grip, 3GB worth of CF, Tamrac CyberPack 9, P.O.T.N. Op-Tech Strap.
Wish List: Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX, Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM, Canon 1.4x TC, Giottos MT-8170.

I put a Tamron 14mm f2.8 prime on my 20D prior to choosing the 10-22. It seems like a good lens. The images were sharp and contrasty, it was flare resistant, and the focus was reasonable. The lens is made for a full-frame camera and is immense and heavy, that was the feature that made me shy away.

I don't have any personal experience with any of these but I have been eyeing the Tamron 17-35 2.8-4, it has been getting solid reviews and the image quality over at PBASE is supporting the reviews.

Switched to Nikon . . . Thanks to all of you that made my sale a success! Enjoy your new gear!

Short Report: Tokina 17mm Wide-Angle A high-quality super-wide-angle at a moderate priceBy Rob Sheppard

($ 389 at B&H or $ 265 -$365 used from time to time)

You can get the focal length of the Tokina AT-X 17 AF Pro lens in a zoom, and sometimes in a similar focal length, so why bother with a single focal length? The answer has two parts: size and quality for the price. The Tokina 17mm ƒ/3.5 lens lists for $810. Zoom lenses that get this wide and are close to this price usually aren’t as sharp as the Tokina in the wider ƒ-stops (stopped down, modern lenses of any major manufacturer at any price are quite remarkable), don’t control flare as well, and exhibit some barrel distortion (bending of straight lines, such as horizons, when near the edge of the frame). After shooting with the AT-X Pro for a while, I found it consistently sharp throughout the ƒ-stop range, with a high degree of flare control, and straight lines stayed straight.

Expensive zooms that reach this focal length easily will match the image quality of the AT-X 17mm or any other single-focal-length lens. However, there’s a price to pay for them—they can be three or more times the cost, plus they’re much bigger lenses, both in height and width as well as weight. I’d have no problems recommending this lens to anyone who needs a super-wide-angle for 35mm or a strong wide-angle for a small-format digital SLR (e.g., for a 1.5x magnification factor, the lens is the equivalent of a 25mm). The lens is rugged and well built, and includes a quick-change ring for switching from auto to manual focus. Filters are 77mm, and the front of the lens doesn’t rotate for focus.

P.S. Just picked one up and it's built like a swiss Watch. Very Sharp at all stops with no barrel or Pincushioning. What a bargain! ----Sailare
