1) hard to tell it's an HDR

Depending on who you ask this is a good thing, I'm glad his hdr doesn't appear to be a hdr. Just personal taste of course but also one could argue that overdone hdrs are tacky and a dead give away for ameture.

i like the 2nd one but the fact its blurred killed it. just leave it normal and try it black and white

the other pics are just like snapshots too. but you are new, learning and improving. i would suggest filling the viewfind with more of the subject and less of the open space
great progress for 2 months though! im only 4 months into mine.

I only have the built-in flash which drowns everything out (even on a lower setting).

I see (just personally) HDR as a way to make an image appear the same way my eyes saw it. HDR with halos everywhere and a "painted" effect aren't the way I saw it. Also, I just want the experience.

1) hard to tell it's an HDR and the white balance looks off. Big giveaway is the bluish/purple cast on the white shoes and shirt. Composition could use a bit of work too.

The television was on.

So the Blur on #2 is a no. I was just playing around.

I want to redo it in a near B&W.

How would you guys do #2?

And thanks for all the comments. They are very helpful!

What do you dislike about them? Or what would you have done differently?

First of all I admire your attitude. I was just being condescending becasue you asked :)

#1. a. Dont like the angle of the shot as it draws the eye to the crotch area.
b. The shot seems unintresting.

#2. Like the composition but not the PP. The selective color in the tie is not doing it for me. Would have liked the shot more if the tie was more a solid color or something that would stand out more. Also his outfit is dirty.

#3. Technically the shoot is ok but the subject does not work well with the camera. Dont know the look you are going for the composition and lighting of the shot does not go well with the attempted "hard" look.

Condescending, eh? Sure. I'll give it a go..

1. Boring. I don't care how many photos you combined. That's not HDR in anything other than name. The white balance appears off but that's beside the point. There is nothing happening. Photography is art and should be, at the very least, interesting. And this is not interesting. In a million frat houses around the world, the same thing is happening.

2. Man standing against the wall. I don't get it. There is no story. No emotion. No feeling. If you want to impress, show me the lines in his face. Show me the callouses on his fingers. So me how he got to where he is - show me his scars. Show me the journey - NOT the destination.

3. Oh the ironic hipster - painfully (or blissfully) unaware that the shirt he is wearing is a product of everything his shirt says he is against. The photo is conflicted; tough guy - I'm against all these things, but his facial expression says otherwise (seriously, he looks like a nice guy - why so much anger?)

Anyway, hope that helped.

that t shirt is kind of ironic ... without the capitolism apparently despised by the owner, the camera he is using to take the shot would not be possible.

Just an old guy's viewpoint.
