3 I'm not sure I understand the shirt, I'm 23 and I like to be unique but all that says to me is I stand for nothing

Really? Huh. I think those are things to stand for. (though without "authority" we would playing King of the Hill)

I would agree, expecially on the racism one. And the anti-war one, weather you agree or not I thought it would be hard to mistake those for not standing for something. I preffer the attitude of question authority to **** authority though haha, each to their own of course. Probably the only one I would argue isnt standing for something is **** religion, and that's not a bad thing. I'm not religious, I also don't beleive there's a pink and green teapot orbiting earth so I guess you could say I don't stand for anything in that respect to :D

Anyway that's all pretty trivial and off topic I guess -I was just bored-, do you recon we could see a straight up b&w version of number two?

Guys, it's okay. Photographs of Hipsters in their natural habitat are few and far between. Keep quiet, you'll scare him away...

Is this thread a joke?

I don't see anything worth commenting on at all besides #3 showing some depressed, immature child who hates life where a shirt with F* all over it.

That isn't you in the shirt is it? Boy, I hope not! lol

I noticed the photos bear a copyright mark, but since authority isn't to be respected I guess we are free to steal them and use them as we please. After all, the US Copyright office is part of the corporate capitalist machine!

That said I really like the shot, I think the attitude of the model comes through in the photo re-enforcing the statement on the shirt.

By the way, I think these shirts are available in the mall. Profits on the shirts also go to the corporate capitalist machine.

lol. well said. beat at his own game.

Regarding the tee shirt/couch photos, they seem to be pretty dull. A kid with tee shirts.

I do think the photo of the older gentleman is a nice capture.

Actually, the blank shirt was shoplifted and then silk-screened in a basement.

I'm very new to these boards (1st critique!) and photography (since October!), but not necessarily new to other forms of art, or to giving criticism. Humbly:

1. Regardless of the technique used to produce this image, I find the setting, subject and angle of view to be boring. If you're trying to capture apathy I think a much more intensive focus on a model that can convincingly exude the desired emotion would be more effective. A closer shot of the face from a different angle, definitely. As a suggestion, if the light from the television is intentional, a bluish glow on a subject's face coupled with the television reflection in the eyes would serve well, but now I'm just recommending a wholly different photograph.

2. I actually enjoy the subject, but I really think this would work better in a fully black-and-white image. The selective coloring and blurring effects do more to distract from the character than enhance him. I think someone else said it best - the image was probably better straight out of the camera. A hallmark of an experienced artist in any medium is knowing when to quit. You could experiment with the crop but I don't think it'll greatly improve the image.

3. I think people got a little too caught up on critiques of the t-shirt, rather than the image. I'm actually torn on my interpretation. Possibilities I've considered:

A. This is a subtle, ironic mockery of the opinions on the t-shirt. The image shows a empty-faced, unenergetic youth with a cliched style and cookie-cutter angst literally spelled out on his chest in the most boring, bland, and unremarkable setting, thereby showcasing the philosophical message as unimaginative and dull as well. If this is the intent then the pose, background, and expression all work pretty well together. Acknowledging my own limitations, I don't know what to recommend to make the true message of the picture more apparent without overdoing it. Stuffing hundred dollar bills into his pocket or posing him against a Porsche is a little too ham-handed.

B. It's a snapshot of a guy with a douchey t-shirt, and the model should stick it on Facebook next to the shirtless, flexing, bathroom mirror pictures he already has.
