The answer on the DPS Link is pretty much it. It's to the point I'd think.

First: get good at photography and portraits
Second: get good at photographing and directing models (even if they're your friends)

Fourth: Fashion photographer

You obviously have excellent skills for journalistic and people portraits. To be successful in fashion photography I would focus on five items:
1) You need to very strong in controlled lighting. Get a few studio strobes and practice extensively on emerging models in studio and location photos
2) You need to understand the critical elements of good fashion photographs. Start collecting strong fashion pictures analyze them to figure out how to try to emulate them. In this process, you will start to understand good fashion photography.
3) You need to work hard on compositional photography with a team of resources-models, hair, makeup, and clothing stylists. You start with a concept, and then pick all the right resources to execute it.
4) You need to start to work with low end fashion clients first- clothing stores, small designers, emerging models, fashion stylists, and low end fashion shows. Start with working in trade to get access to the right resources and build your portfolio of fashion work.
4) There is a different style and ethos of fashion photography. Networking within the fashion industry, talking and assisting with true fashion photographers, and creating a new brand of your photography separate from weddings are all steps in the right direction.

Thats about the only photo skill you need.
Money, Yachts, Italian Sports Cars, Villas, Wild Parties,
and famous sex partners will get you the rest.
