thanks Mark. Im not sure i can make this saturday - will let you know for sure

no worries fella, you can borrow the lens align if you want or just take a photo of something at 0 MA then take the same picture at say +5 and see if its any better/sharper and just keep on going till you think its right, quite a lot of photos I took with that lens after I got it how I liked it, I never needed to sharpen in PP

Where's the bet place to do Eurotunnel train shots day and night?
I need somewhere that allows me to do low level with no fence in the way and the train must be at high speed.

Euro Tunnel trains no chance, not even I can get access for that type of shot and I work there, as they only run round a circuit on the terminals. Euro Star trains will be just as hard as the high speed line has a fence along it's length to keep people off the line though there maybe places where you could get next to the fence and be able to focus through the fence.

Yep I have found such a place near Smeeth.
Smeeth, Ashford, Kent, UK and 51.107484, 0.955922 (search these coords in Google maps) it looks like you can get to this area.
I will have to do a rekki. I suppose I will have to take my jump leads and snips to get a decent shot.:)

not the first time, but I did see the seagul.
you should try it with a wide angle lens, I have done some with a 10mm, and a 8mm Samyang, and even a G9. Go for the full 360 deg.

Careful look at Google earth, I found a very intresting street view photo !
It may be possible to get a shot at Rainham station (in Essex) but you would not be to low.

If you go to Westenhanger station you'd be able to get a HS1 train going through not at full speed at normal speed but probably fast enough for a photo.

Yep I often use my 12-24 wide angle but mostly for indoor panos. With this particular one I was looking at doing a large print so I needed the detail.
This is a 100% crop of the pigeon to give you some idea of the detail.
Also bearing in mind this was low light sunrise.

That was not the one I spotted, look in the rock shop window just before the lamp post.

Hey guys, was thinking of picking up a small light tripod for carrying "everyday use". I've seen this one:

Giottos MT8240B Carbon Fibre Travel Tripod (external link)

It takes 3,000g total weight and with a 1D Mark IV and a 70-200 there's only 300g left spare, anyone know if this would affect stability, especially with a head yet to add to it?

As said you'll have no chance with the Eurotunnel shuttles, the security fencing on the sites is a good distance from things. For the Eurostars your best bet is in France as they aren't as hot on security fencing as we are and in a lot of places on the run down to Paris the fences are very near the lines and only maybe 3 feet high. Access should be simple enough to set the camera down to take shots (I'd stand well back and use a remote myself rather than crouch at the trackside).

A light tripod is more likely to get taken out for photo taking thats for sure!

I have only used manfrotto tripods so can't recommend this brand but it looks like it'll do the trick?
