Hi
How about this one, taken with a G9. I'm biased as when I look at this, it reminds me of the trip, and it was work in the Artic circle, Norway!

This one is the main subject for me, cycling.

Hey guys, was thinking of picking up a small light tripod for carrying "everyday use". I've seen this one:

Giottos MT8240B Carbon Fibre Travel Tripod (external link)

It takes 3,000g total weight and with a 1D Mark IV and a 70-200 there's only 300g left spare, anyone know if this would affect stability, especially with a head yet to add to it?

DONT DO IT!

Please, for the love of god dont buy a Giottos tripod - i wouldn't forgive myself for not warning you off them. They are complete and utter tat. They are not even really that cheap.

They are feature rich but build quality light. On mine the leg locks' bushes wore since they were made of plastic and they kept needing to be adjusted to make them lock properly. After just 9 months of light use they are now unable to hold anywhere near the full specified weight capacity. Their answer? Wear & tear.

Their ball heads are just as ****e. I had to dismantle mine to file a metal burr out of spindle on teh panning base since it would wobble on the mount slightly before i made the modification.

Stay away from them and buy pretty much anything else.

Buy cheap, buy twice. Never buy Giottos.

My setup is fairly similar. If you're using the tripod collar with the 70-200 then you'll have no problems at all. I find if I don't it gets a little wobbly, but I've never had a real issue with it.

That takes it off the shopping list for me. Thanks Rob, I trust your recommendation.

A light tripod is more likely to get taken out for photo taking thats for sure!

I have only used manfrotto tripods so can't recommend this brand but it looks like it'll do the trick?

Really depends what you are prepared to pay, but the traveller series from Gitzo are sublime.

I have come so close to buying one of these many times!

A tad more expensive than the giottos you linked however :(

I love my manfrotto (external link). It might run a bit short for you though, I don't recall how tall you are. I'm 5'8" and I sometimes wish it was an inch or two taller.

Maybe one of the 055 carbon ones? They're too tall for me :)

Also, this on the BBC for the Chernobylites - http://www.bbc.co.uk …ence-environment-12335595 (external link) - would have loved to have gotten into the control room of Reactor 4.

Hmm could set it as a challenge for Victor and Matt;)

actually, I'm mor concerned about the pacific islands (Fiji/Vanatu/Solomons etc) that are already under it. They usually get flattened with a Cat 1 cyclone, much less a Cat 5. I've got a cousin about to get hit in north Queensland but she's just on the edge of it.

Hope they are ok

That looks really cool - especially with the monopod integrated with it.

Not sure on the combination of a screw on leg that uses twist locks on the legs lower extensions however? I could see that working its way loose gradually and getting annoying.

I have a Manfrotto 055 carbon jobbie, it's perfect, I got the magnesium head to keep the weight down too, and I use it as it's so portable...

I remember reading about the three-legged tripods, they are the same spec as another named brand tripod just rebadged if I recall correctly?!

6'+ so probably too short for me. I'll add it to my shortlist though :)

Price not really an issue and they do look good. Hmmm....

Now that does look a very cool tripod. Not heard of them though so not much provenance to go on.

How short does it go? Wanted one I could literally chuck in my "manbag" as the wife calls it :D
