those of you that know more about lens adapters... does anyone make an EF to Sont Alpha adapter?

the slt has a permanent mirror that allows full time phase detection AF during video capture, something id prefer on a canon body :(

Sony has some pretty decent options, but I doubt there are many serious Sony users on this forum. I know for the money, there new 30/35/50/85mm primes are very good and they do have the only AF Carl Zeiss SLR lenses.

I have a Sony stereo receiver on the way. Just didn't need THX and 5 channel surround sound for my small office. $125.

If anyone needs a Canon calculator, I can throw one in for $5.

I remember those first "pocket" calculators that sold for over $100 and would not fit into a pocket. I think 1/x was the most complicated thing they could do. Or was it suare root?

Sony DSLR's are developed from Minolta cameras and use the lens mount that was used by Maxxum cameras.

i was really hoping to find an AF solution as a MF solution defeats the purpose of wanting an SLTAxx for the full time Af during video

i guess its sony a sony lens or two

Not only manual focus, but you would lack aperture control, as all of that is electronically controlled.

Checked out the zeiss 24-70 f/2.8 in the Sony store Sunday. Very well build lens. The external flash on the other hand was pretty disappointing. The flash's connection to the camera does not feel secured. I can feel some movement with very little force.

I saw a lot of good lenses in Sony line up. Unfortunately they are all more expensive than Canon equivalent lens.

Minolta was the first company to introduce a viable AF SLR and was one of the largest camera manufacturers, Sony purchased all the IP when it took over the company. A lot of the Sony lenses are updated Minolta designs, so they have a good pedigree. The Carl Zeiss Sony range is excellent if you can afford it, you can also use a lot of the Minolta AF lenses, which is quite a big range.

This is from the DPReview review of the SLT A55, sometimes AF in video has it's own issues.

"But, because of the shallow depth-of-field offered by large sensor cameras (and depending on the subject) shooting video with AF might not be entirely advisable. Firstly the camera doesn't always focus on the subject you want it to focus on which can lead to visually unpleasant 'focus jumps' and secondly the noise of the focus motor can be heard on the audio track. Although the latter can be avoided by using an external microphone, due to the narrow depth-of-field of an APS-C sensor camera such as the Sony SLT-A55, even small shifts in focus will be much more visible than on small-sensor camcorders or compact cameras."

Not really, I believe the 24-70, 85 1.4 and 70-200 F2.8 are all cheaper than or about the same as Canon.

 ... sometimes I think Sony has got some very good alternatives to Canon and Nikon with the best sensors (by very far, if we see Nikon D7000 and Pentax K5 with sony's sensors), probably the best 135/1.8mm on the market, a very good travel 500mmF/8 (with AF and stabilized by the body) a convincing zeiss 24mm/2 with smooth AF... and a monster 300/2.8mm ....
Actually, their FF bodies are a bit behind canon and far from Nikon (strange because they use sony's sensors) .

I use a NEX5 with some canon lenses ... and I can get pretty good results..

Just 3 samples I got 2 weeks ago with NEX5 + Canon 50F1.4mmm

It's more interesting with old FD series than new EF .. you need an aperture ring not to stay wide open.
