I'll second Martin Evening's books. I got Kelby's first, didn't like it, got Evening's and much prefer it. Personal taste of course.

Agreed! The Martin Evening reccomendation...his book Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers is a keeper! I looked at the Kelby books, but they were a little more "basic" in comparison. Here's a link:

I have older versions of both (I still have CS3) and wouldn't have it any other way:)! Kelby has coold tutorials for "hands on" learning, Evening has the depth for "knowing a lot of stuff":)!

I have a couple of Kelby books, and I have the Martin Evening book. Good books/authors both and I concur with the "hands on" v. depth of information" comments. I'll throw one other into the mix that I am currently working through and learning quite a bit from:

Deke McClelland CS5 One-on-One

This falls in the "hands on" category. Caveat...I'm actually using the CS4 version; but the format i'm sure is the same.

I'll say that I've also heard top notch recommendations for the CSx One on One books. I just don't have a copy so can't be all a-gush about it:). But, I do have a pile of books, most of which I've read over the years and all of which I have at least skimmed to pick up things, so I'd be happy to have a copy of One on One:)!

Also, important if you shoot Raw but even useful if you don't -- the book Real World Camera Raw is a classic for getting a handle on that vital piece of Photoshop.
