Every single time I use 'burst' mode shooting i miss the focus, miss the shot and mess up the shot so i had to rely on good ol' fashioned timing for this shot.

That worked well 40 years ago & still does the job now! :D

This is another image from the same shoot (same bird I think) its called "coming in to land".

Wonderful photos.... What's so weird is that I was contemplating visiting a falconery display, and planning how to take photos and which situations to try and capture, and in my mind's eye I had the very shot you just posted - the coming in to land, with the wings spread to brake and the claws reaching for the glove.... I could not believe to find the picture here just hours later.... I suppose there's no point me trying that particular frame now  ... Tell me, where did you take those pictures ? Not the National Falconery Centre in Gloucestershire by any chance?

Thanks, glad you like them.

This was taken at the 'Hawk Conservancy' in Hampshire, its a really nice place to visit, Has some really good opportunities to shoot.

If you are ever up near the Gloucestershire area do go to the National Falconry Centre - they have a huge variety of birds and it's well run. I took masses of pictures there, which sadly got lost in my move from the UK to Germany  ....
