Its always nice to get good feed back from weddings. This is an email i received from the bride after i gave her their photos:

"Howdy Mark

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for our photos and DVD! I love them all!!

We have watched the DVD about 400 times already and we both love it!!

And yes, I may have shed a tear or two when I was watching the slideshow haha!

Love the edits disk - I already have a few picked out to get printed but its so hard to decide - they are all awesome!

So thanks again, bloody top job :-)"

More than once, I've expressed that I don't do this for the money. My day job pays me very well and I certainly don't need to do wedding photography for financial reasons. I do it because I genuinely enjoy it.

And then, there's the legacy element. My parents are married 53 years. They were looking at their album not long ago and reminisced fondly about the photographer who took these photos for them. It's neat to think that one day, long after I'm gone, couples will do the same thing as they delight in the photos I've created for them; photos that will one day pass to their children and their children's children.

Other than my sons (for whom my business is named), I'm not sure I'm leaving much of legacy to this world. Most people don't. But then, in some small way, there's this and that's pretty cool.

I agree with Robert, putting the check in the bank is nice...but there's nothing more rewarding than getting a raving review from a client.

I just met with a recent couple to give them their wedding album and BOTH the bride and groom were in tears...happily of course...that's definitely the ultimate reward and is what keeps me going.

It's mandatory in Austrelia.

A little off topic but possibly meaning the same thing - Many years ago at school I can always remember a maths teacher telling me that if he got one 'Thank You' at the end of the year it was all worthwhile.

That's a good way of looking at it. Also tim, I can't help but think that's a kiwi dig at an Aussie ;)
