I've been using speedlights as my main lights for a while, time to upgrade, what do you recommend for studio lights? AB's? how much more money are we looking at?

I would go with two AB 400s, one for your main the other for fill then three of the PG3001ML units from www.photographerswarehouse.com (external link). They are $119.95 (each) and are really powerful (100WS) versatile and lightweight (21 ounces.) They are about 4 inches in diameter and about six inches long. I like them because they are cheap, last 10,000 flashes before needing replacement and take lightweight stands.

Well, kinda depends on how much money you want to spend....

I highly recommend Elinchrom at any level though.

That light looks interesting for the money, but there is no way to fine tune the output, you can only set full, 1/2, 1/4.

If you recommend two AB400's, why go with 4 PG3001ML's? I think the MLB is the 100W one for $119, the 1ML is a 150W and seems to have a lot more features for $159.

What type of price we talking to get started with a Elinchrom setup for a home studio?
