Alright so i have Canon's DPP right now and also a 30 day trial of PS Lightroom. After reading many many reviews online saying that DPP can do everything lightroom can plus some more...i think I'm gonna stick with the free DPP.

Heres my question and where i need help. I am not so great at post processing (PP) pictures after i take them. I have a great photography eye and can take the quality pictures...they just dont compare these days with everyone whos so good at PP to make them look amazing!

So can anyone give me tips or send me to a good/great PP tutorial site or send me to a different thread that contains help with PP (preferable some tuts)

Thanks everyone!

Lightroom is waaaaaaay better. I can't even begin to tell you the differences. I would stick with LR.

Well, I'm a fan of DPP but it's a huge inaccurate exaggeration for someone to claim that" DPP can do everything lightroom can plus some more". Let's just say that DPP can do a lot of what Lightroom does and has some "extra" features that are nice:).

There are some Canon tutorials that include DPP as well as an understanding of Raw. You don't say if you are shooting Raw or jpeg -- DPP "specializes" in working with Raw files and has some cool stuff that works with Raw files but not with jpegs.

Here's a link to the Canon DPP tutorials page:

Yeah I am going to be shooing in RAW from now on and thats why i was getting into DPP and LR. I just wanted to see some pages where people showed what they did with some of their pictures...like before and after processing with in between explanations. Any threads here or 3rd party sites?

Have you spent any time browsing through the many years of posts on POTN? Have you tried searching for threads on specific topics? Have you read the stickys?

Sometimes it helps to post one of your photos and simply ask for ways to improve it, using the software you have on hand.

Picture I took last year and this is actually already slightly edited. I upped the temperature a little and added slight increase in contrast with a bit of saturation. Does it look alright? PS: This was a JPEG image so it was not edited in RAW which you probably will laugh at haha :p

what could i or should i have done with the picture for PP?

Are you shooting Raw or Jpg?
Haven't used DPP myself but I shoot Raw and use LR and it is awesome in my opinion......I would check out some free presets for different looks, maybe try Lynda.com for tutorials or google a specific question such as "how to achieve a bleached look to a photo in Photoshop" etc, you'll be amazed at the amount of tutorials out there.....oh, and if you find any good tut sites, let me know!! :-)

I am shooting RAW for clarification. Just started shooting RAW though because i want to get more into the whole PP thing. I know the photo above was a JPEG and i know that PP is tougher with that instead of a RAW...I really want to experiment with DPP but do not have any RAW photos worth editing yet. Would anyone be willing to send me a RAW picture (preferably some sort of interesting landscape or something) for me to fiddle around with? email: jordynmurdock@yahoo.com (external link)
