I am in need of some help with Lightroom 3.3 update. Eversince I download Lightroom 3.3 update from Lightroom 3.0. I now can not download any picture files. What happens is you can see the files you want to download i then select them and go to inport them. The inport start then I get this message (The following files were not inported becouse they could not be read.) My OS is Window 7 Pro 64 bit. I know CF cards are good becouse I can still down my picture on my other laptop Using Lightroom 2.7 with Window XP OS. Sure hope someone can help me out.
Thanks
Mark

You probably need to download the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR)

If you were able to download the same files before with Lightroom 3.0, I doubt it's because of Adobe Camera Raw that you can no longer download it with the newer version of Lightroom 3.3.

LR 3.3 incorporates the latest version of ACR. It is unlikely that he would gain anything by doing that and anyways the OP does not say that he has PSCS5.

Mvan - What happens if you download the files to your HD without LR; some other means like EOS Utility if you are using the usb hookup, copy/paste from a card reader or even transferring them from the second laptop. Once they are on the HD try an import with Add instead of Copy and report what happens.

Mr.Talzman,
Here is a update.

  • I can download my pictures to my HD useing EOS software.
  • Tried import my pictures into LR3.3 by move them from the HD into LR3.3 but that did not work come up with a error(Could not move files requested to new location.)
  • Then I tried importing my picture from my HD by using the add button in LR3.3 inport and that did work.

Mvan, are you trying to download directly from the camera or are you using a card reader?

Mvan, you have to understand that you cannot move photo files "into" LR. LR consists of a data base catalog(s), which is essentially just a text file with very sophisticated indexing, and two preview caches. The photos are always somewhere on your hard drive in a location that you determine, not "in" LR. If you ask LR to move or copy a photo to a new location, it does two things. First it sends a command to Windows to do the actual move/copy and second it updates the entry in its catalog regarding the location of the photo. So, if moving, either from card to HD or from one spot on the HD to another, fails and importing without moving ("Add") is successful, it sounds like one of two possibilities is happening - either user error in that you are not correctly designating a destination for the moved file or a Windows 7 error. Since you said you have no problem with an XP machine the finger seems to point at Win 7.
The work-around will be to always do what you did: to move the files with EOS Utility and then import to LR using "Add". (I, BTW, always do that myself because I prefer the facilities for viewing files on the card before moving them afforded by a program called BreezeBrowser Pro to those of LR.)

Do you have write permission for the location you are trying to move the files to?

I'm having the same issue with 3.3; not sure when it started though. I had to copy the images off of the card to a directory on my hard drive and then add them to the catalog.

I'm fairly new to Mac and don't understand all the permission workings, but I can copy the files to the location so I'm assuming LR should work, but are there separate permissions for the application's access to the folder?

Interesting - my issue only appears to be with images from the SD card; the CF import seems to be working just fine.

Here is my new update.

  • Went to Adobe.com and redown loaded LR 3.3 file useing Adobe repair file function.
  • Now LR 3.3 will read my picture fills both off my card readers SD & CF and directly off my camera useing my laptop that is running Win 7 Pro.
  • But now here my new question I swear that before I updated LR3.0 to LR 3.3 I could preview my pictures on my cards and camera and select the pictures I wanted. Then import them into LR. Is there some function in LR that I now need to enable to able to do this?

Look in your Preferences in the Import tab for options

I tried downloading LR 3.3 and reinstalling over the current installation, but that didn't help. Where would one find the repair file function?
