Always wanted to shoot a sunrise that had depth, punch...like most of the pics i have seen here, but each time i end up with flat images that lack depth or color. Beginning to wonder where i am going wrong...is it my camera or lens [of course mediocrity of 18-55 has been discussed at length]...or probably just me :P

one of the several pics at 1st attempt I made a month back.
18-55, f/8.0, white balance set to AEB. Standard picture Style.

Todays attempt

18-55, f/8.0, White balance set to Sun light, Picture style custom [Increased saturation, sharpness by a notch or couple.]. Tweaked in Lightroom.

shot with 55-250, f/8.0, rest same as previous.
