I'm in Orlando, and have seen canon over Nikon 3 to 1! Will be here for 7 days, and this is the fourth. Mainly seeing 500D but also 550D and 7D.

Canon seems to be really popular with all nationalities:

I thought it is interesting.

So much depends on marketting, promotions, rebates, availability, etc.

As much as I've enjoyed Canon gear for 40+ years, fact is that both Canon AND Nikon make excellent equipment. Back in the 50's - 70's Nikon dominated the PJ news and sports field with their SLR's while Canon played catch-up.

I have no plans to move to Nikon but I hope they never go under. Their innovation and competition help to keep Canon current and vice versa. And somebody who is both skilled and knowledgeable in the basics of photography - which many here are not due to their reliance on automation (not a criticism, but just an observation of the trap that many fall into) - can produce excellent work on both platforms.

Interesting anecdotal statistic - but it could be quite the opposite at another theme park :D.

This is exactly it. There has to be a competitor.

Absolutely ;). Keeps prices reasonable, stimulates innovation, keeps the marketting departments almost honest

Such a shame that most people probably don't recognise that. It's for the better, seeing a Noinky shooting beside you. :p

I live in Orlando, and I have all Canon equipment but it has nothing to do with any local or regional promotions. In fact I have not seen any beyond the national campaigns. Last year I was speaking to the photographer for the Sentinel and he has all Canon equipment. He was a Nikon user in the film days (not that it has completely gone away) but he went to Canon digital because they were far ahead of the competition. Look on the NFL sidelines and and you see the familiar white Canon glass. Canon started making major in-roads in the late 70s and they gave Nikon a run for their money. I switched to Canon about then with some solid advice from a salesman at Penn Camera in Washington DC. I have owned serveral new F1n cameras and about 20 FD lenses - 5 with red lines around them, but that is most gone now. I moved onto DSLRs because of the editing capability at home. I have found Canon to be a good reliable product and I have been happy with them - why change????

I've been a Canon user since the late 1980's, and have always found the products to be of high quality.
This post just seems to validate my perception, right or wrong.

no ones arguing that canon doesnt make quality equipment, but nikon can hold their own

if glass werent soo expensive, im positive there would be more people who owned canon and nikon in the same camera bag

hell, im contemplating throwing a sony alpha slta55 in the mix

Really? I'm not a hardcore Canon fanboy, but I'm almost allergic to the Sony Pellicle mirror thing. Feels so odd in the hand. And there's no optical viewfinder!

It is funny you brought it up; in the short time I've been here there has been this attitude, from people, about equipment and what they think is inferior. One would expect better treatment if we owned Nikon and posted on this forum. As it so happens we are all Canon users, but by the attitude, something else.

Thumbled from iPhone.

Merry Christmas everyone! Well just my two cents, but both Canon and Nikon reside in my home and have along with a few other brands. My wife loves Nikon, and I love her just the same. This just means I have twice as much kit to choose from if needed. Also, as S.A. Pearl so beautifully stated, it is the photographer behind the camera that makes the photos, not the camera. We should all remember this on this day a day of love and family.

Afterall, WE all on this planet together! Cameras are only a piece of technology that we use to make pretty things neat for another person to view. So let us bury this debate on this happiest of days and spend our time with loved ones!?!?!
