Last night, as i was preparing the camera for photo this morning, I accidently press my finger on the lens.
I tried to use the Kodak lens cleaning paper to swipe but no luck. I then spray a lite glasses cleaner solution on the kodak paper and swipe it.

wow, now it seems like it clean out the finger print but it leave a circular smudges that I can see it when I look from the side view. I tried to take a photo to show but the picture doesn't come out clear.
Did I destroy the manufacture coating? Is there a better way to clean this lens? I went to read the forum and came with suggestion of isopropal alcohol or using Vodka with either camera paper or cloth.
But wish I can get a clean suggestion before I mess up some more.

Much appreciate the help....It is urgent because most camera store [today] is not open. I'm hoping there is a quick fix with what I have now or at liqour store???Thanks.

Just breathe on the lens and use some microfiber cloth to wipe it out in circular motion (yes, you can drink a shot of Vodka before that :))
Going forward just do yourself a favor and buy lenspen, it's the best lens cleaning solution around.

Thanks for a quick reply. I did blow air into the lens. and still see smudges.
Following Qs:
Is there an expiration on kodak paper? It seems the more I use it, the worst it gets.
2nd: I honestly do not have a very clean microfiber cloth. Yes, ihave many but they are all from my Optometry place. And based on what I have read, not all cloth made the cut, some do have fiber remain and can make it worst. true?

Btw, I re-look at the photo, can aanyone see that on the left side toward the front rim of the lens has the "wave smudges" that I'm trying to describe.

Again, much appreciate for the help

buy yourself a bottle of photographic lens cleaning solution. Then put a drop on the lens and gently clean with the kodak paper. don't rub hard (any grit will scratch), and leave it alone until you have some sort of proper cleaning solution.

I always worry about putting solution directly on the lens. I worry that it may run and end up in places that I didn't intend. I've always wet a corner of the cleansing paper instead.

THank you for all your support. I guess I just have to leave it alone for now. So, if anyone can tell, based on the photo attached does it looks like the lens is fine to continue to take photos?
In my untrained eyes, I think the photo appear normal but just certain from my limited skill.
Thanks again.

A smudge is not going to do much, if anything, at all to you images - just go out and take photos and worry less about smudges. I never even use a solution - just fog with breath and wipe with a soft (microfiber) cloth - works every time.

Most likely those circular smudges are trace amounts of oil that still remains.
I use a product called ROR Residual oil remover. It's made for camera lenses, microscopes, telescopes, etc. The company says it can also be used for LCD screens.
It removes microscopic oil residues and is safe for coated optical surfaces. You can buy it from any of the big online camera stores.

I spray the ROR onto lens cleaning tissue and wipe the lens in a circular motion.
One drawback I see in lens tissue is that it's not very absorbant. It doesn't soak up all of the lens cleaner, so I have to use a few sheets to do the job. But it gets the job done with good results. I may try using a microfiber lens cloth next time.

This stuff also make a great camera and laptop LCD cleaner.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

never put the solution on the device. this applies for all electronics and other fragiles that could be harmed by liquids. put it on the towel/cloth, then wipe.

also i would only use my t-shirt if it was absolutely necessary. t-shirts are contaminated with all kind of abrasive stuff, unless they are fresh from the washer. also become greasy after a few hours of wearing, so the lens won't be to clean after all. i used to clean my glasses on my t-shirt regularly, now i got a new pair and only wet clean them. much better for the coatings.

I find that a Lens Pen does wonders for removing smudges. They're pretty cheap; you should try to track one down.

I keep some glass cleaning microfiber thingy in my bag but I've used regular soft fabrics as well. Fabric shops sell by the yard for cheap and gives you almost unlimited sheets

+1...they work great. B&H sells a great cleaning kit with (2) pens in it. It's comes in a Nikon little holder:oops: but it's a great cleaning kit for the price and the pens work great.

in my opinion you are worry way too much about something that's really not a big deal...your lens could have a giant crack in the middle, and it'd still be fine to take pictures...you might not even notice any difference either...a smudge isn't going to affect your pictures in any way, and is goign to easily come off when you clean it properly...
