This seems to be an issue that pops up a lot.

I know for a lot of members, it doesn't effect the image quality nor do they even care, but when you drop as much money as you would on an L lens, you'd expect a certain level of quality in the lens' construction that would prevent from this sort of thing from happening.

Canon claims that there are no issues regarding dust entering into the lens.

But out of curiosity, how many people are affected by this on POTN?

I've only had mine now for few days [Santa dropped by early so could use it at a concert, and for kids present openings], so no dust here that I can discern. What might be interesting to this poll / thread would be to know (a) how long have had the lens, (b) if there is filter on the front, (c) what type of environment is the lens most used within, (d) etc. type of questions, to help gather more knowledge of the situation.

I have had alot of dust ON my 17-55 but a quick blow on it makes it go away.
Even inside, nada. there are like 3 specs that are permanent residents inside there that give it character since the day i got it. Don't bother me though cause I don't take many photos of white walls and blank sheets of paper.

Mine seems to have gotten a lot of dust in it. I've had it for a couple months now. I think what I will do is disassemble it and blow the dust out and put a good UV filter on it.

My room naturally accumulates a lot of dust no matter how much I vacuum and I'm sure that's contributing to it.

Got mine brand new approximately two weeks ago. Has four or five specks of dust/tiny hairs in it - came out the box that way. I did put a B&W filter on it as soon as I took it out the box. The store I purchased it from would not exchange it.
