I normally use strobes in my studio with softboxes, however the shallowest DOF I can usually shoot is f5.6. For this shot I tried something different. I used my RadioPoppers to fire my 580 EX II wirelessly, and I had it shooting through a with umbrella. I set my camera to ISO-100 f/2.8 1/125 sec. NO metering whatsoever, and I let the ETTL do its thing. I was quite pleased with the results from this one light setup and I was able to get my shallow DOF!

Jay, these look great! I love the red background. Only nit pick would be the hands in the first two. Maybe a tighter crop? I absolutely love the last shot though. It's almost dreamy...
What are you using on camera with the poppers? Another 580?

Thanks man. Yeah this is the crop straight out of my camera I think I can post crop them and it might be better. I use a ST-E2 trigger on my hotshoe to trigger the popper.

I know I can prob find it online, but could you snap a shot of how you mounted the poppers? both on the flash and the St-e2. I just picked up an ST-E2 myself. More for focus assist in low light, but with these results, the poppers could go on my B day list.

Sure! When you order the receiver, it comes with the Canon or Nikon bracket, which ever you choose. You can use that same bracket with 580EX, 580EX II, and others. Your speedlite fits right up snug to it. The Transmitter is simply mounted on top of the ST-E2 with industrial strength velco, which they also supply! I also use an umbrelly to slide into my mounting bracket on my light stand.

Thanks Jay. Dumb question though... Where is the transmitter getting it's signal from? Is it using the IR on the ST-E2?

The guy at radiopopper told me it was not the IR. He said it pick up a distinct vibration signal! Too complicated for this Arkansas boy! I just know it works great and much more reliable than pocketwizard flex and mini.

Haha! You have me interested in this. I saw they have a studio system that will adjust the power on my bees too. It would be nice to have one system that will go from studio to street.

Right, however, I don't think the JrX system will do ETTL, and I really wanted that. I tested this setup, and I was able to set my camera to ISO 800, f2.8, 1/125 or maybe ISO 100 f8, 1/400 and achieve pretty much the same exposure every time. That's how well the ETTL works!
