question about canons drive modes

in single shot AF and Single shot Drive.. with a half press the camera locks focus and takes one image at full press

in ai servo and single shot drive, with a half press it begins focusing and refocuses for moving objects then takes one image at full press

what about in single shot AF and continuous burst? does it only focus once then takes 3/5/8 shots in a sec per full press.. so if a subject moves it is now OOF?

the reason i ask is, some cameras, maybe only one.. the sony SLT line focuses and meters between each shot at 7 and 10FPS

i was taking pictures of some friends walking for an engagement using the 1DmkII, in Continuous H and Ai servo with a USM lens, i could never get them in focus.. i imagine the 1D excels in this area

you want ai servo with continuos shot, this will keep focusing as the object moves as long as you are holding down the shutter release.

AI Servo should keep re-focusing on a moving subject, but you typically five it a bit to acquire focus and "predict" movement. The 1DMkII is in fact widely regarded for its abilities here, so it sounds like you just want to get the hang of things.

Yes.

Were you in low light? It could've been having trouble focusing in low light.

Provided you've made an appropriate setting of all the other AF-related parameters that camera supports, then yes, it will track focus of things moving significantly faster than people walking.

For moving subjects, you should have your camera set to AI Servo, Continuous and use a single point AF over the subject. Did you use a single AF point or let the camera choose the AF point for you?
