I don't think a Japanese company would use number 9 (or 4 for that matter.)

good point:p that aside, anything else than an odd number would be revolutionary and I don't think they'll waste 3 yet, so if not 9, then ok maybe 8.. but why not 6? or 2? ....

Who cares what it's called? It's gonna be a 7D MkII btw. :p

What about the features? I'd love to see it come standard with the dial lock. And a more ergonomic body like a 60D. Don't care for the articulating LCD tho but for some reason, I see it being very possible. Better weather proofing would be a plus.

Well so far, Canon is mainly reusing film camera names. If they stick with that, then we would expect them to use 3. The two high-end film bodies were the EOS 1 and the EOS 3 series. Mid level were EOS 5 (also called A2) and EOS 7 (also called Elan) and then the consumer stuff was Rebel/Kiss/4 digit numbers.

That guy's post about the 8D was extremely useless, no offense.

Seems like a 7D II if anything.

Yes, but 3D really sounds weird nowadays :D I'd really place my bet on 1Ds4/1D5 and 5D3/7D2 for the future models.

It's just a wishlist, and an unrealistic one to boot.

The one thing I don't get is why some people think the successor to the 7D would be called 8D?! If Canon did that on their single-digit cameras, they would already have run out of numbers years ago.

It's going to be called "7D Mark II" and have at least 18 megapixels. You heard it here first! I'd even go as far as to say that it's release will be at Photokina 2012.

Its amazing how rumors can get out of control. I still have yet to hear a verizon employee even hint to them getting the iphone and everyone seems to think that it will be happening next week. I know thats off subject but it deserves to be in the same category as this.

With the difference that the Verizon iPhone rumors are at least backed by independent reports from the supplier industry about Apple buying millions of Qualcomm CDMA chipsets last year.

Well those rumors came true on the iphone ;)

Well it is pretty much a given there will be both new Canon bodies AND an iphone. The naming and specs are where it becomes very fuzzy.

For the same reason (possibly), Canon needs to start thinking about change the XXD Series soon. :) I hear the 70D is just around the corner and they are running out of numbers.

The 8D is not that unrealistic...

they don't need another single D camera. The 60D does the job nicely.

I hope pentax releases a full frame body called the K-9. It'd would be known as "the Dog" amongst pros. 20MP and ISO250k.

And would have almost no lens selection since Pentax has all but stopped making FF compatible lenses! :p
