Moving to a new city--advice appreciated

I'll be taking my still developing (redundant, to be sure) wedding and event photography business from Toronto to Ottawa in the new year and was hoping to get a little bit of advice on things I can do to help with the transition.

As background, Ottawa is the capital of Canada but is a significantly smaller city than is Toronto. In my first year and a half shooting in a professional capacity I've been getting business via craigslist / kijiji and referrals from clients.

What are the top 3 things you would suggest I do in terms of advertising, getting my name out there early ? I am definitely ready to invest in marketing but don't know how to get the best bang the buck.

Start link building key words to your website that contain combinations with Ottawa.

Do a couple of well written press releases (online ones) you'll have to do some searching for some sites, or someone else might know some Canadian PR sites. Also make sure your on google maps (business bit) so that people can find you when they search Photographer Ottawa.

I'd also suggest going to venues and having a chat with them, see if you can become the offical photographer or at least get your business cards/brochure/flyer there.

Another trick is see if you can get in any local bridal mags, they're expensive but they pay off (I've known a few photographers who drum up loads of business from them). Make sure the add is well thought out.

Not to sound too crass (or obvious), but don't forget the French . . . in your own language skills and your business cards/letterhead/adver​tising . . .
