Looking to get a wider angle lens, what about a 22-55mm USM?

I have a Canon 1D and the only other lens I own is a 50mm 1.8, I really like it but its hard to get indoor shots with it. I'm contemplating another wider angle lens but I can't find a good deal on one, plus I'm on a tight budget :/

I've found a 22-55mm locally in supposedly good albeit used condition and I'm thinking of buying it but I'm not entirely sure yet, I know it used to be a kit lens from the late 90s like the EFS 18-55 but thats the amount of my knowledge.

Should I buy it or hold on for something else? I've got about ~$100 bucks to blow on a lens (not much at all!). Are there any other decent wide angle EF lens out there?

It is not a very sharp lens, especially wide open. If you stop down to f/8 it won't be too bad. Anything else will cost much more than $100.

A 24-85mm USM would give you better results but it costs a bit more.

Another option is a 20-35mm USM, but it also would cost you more.

If you don't mind a lens that starts at 28mm, the 28mm f/2.8, 28-105mm USM II, or 28-135mm USM IS are good choices.
