Getting EF-S 17-55 and 70-200, sell the 28-135?

I am planning to get the EF-S17-55 f/2.8 and the 70-200 f/4L IS lenses.
I have been somewhat satisfied with the 28-135 IS, but not really that crazy about it.
I mostly use the lenses for general photography, vacations and some standard corporate photography occasionally.

Should I keep the 28-135, or get a different lens to cover part of my gap between 55mm and 112mm (70*1.6x)? Or just deal with the gap and crop accordingly?

I am using a 40D, planning to pick up either a second 40D for backup or a 50D.

Once you get those other two lenses you will answer your own question.

the only gap you have is from 55 to 70, which imho is not too bad.

I'd sell as you'll have two superior lenses and won't use the old one anymore.

The EF-S lens is a true 55mm, but the 70-200 is a EF and I have a crop factor so you have to multiply the 70 by 1.6

Sell it. It is novice to think that you need to fill in EVERY FL gap. Look at your photo collection - are a lot of them in the 55-70mm range? If it is indeed a FL that you use - you can just fill the void with a prime in the future - but many people, including myself, use a similar combo and it is not lacking in any way. I have a gap from 40-70 and it doesn't bother me one bit - in fact - I have sold all my 50mm's due to inactivity. ;)

Great choice on the lens - the 17-55mm + 70-200mm is a formidable combo that is VERY versatile. Good luck!

Wrong. Every lens is true focal length. You will need to multiply everything by 1.6 if using on a crop body.

Yes- this is correct. Having an "EF-S" on the lens does not change the focal length. The focal length is what it states.

Sorry, but you have this wrong. EF-S lenses have their true focal lengths printed on them, same as EF. Your two lenses cover 17-55mm and 70-200mm. Your 'gap' is 56mm to 69mm, not worth trying to fill IMO.

Great choice - and add a Tokina 11-16 to the mix, and you'll have an excellent set-up  :D And as others have said, don't fret at all about a "gap".

PS: only reason why I still have my 28-135 is due to that (a) I'm bit lazy about this, as haven't got around to selling it yet, and (b) I kinda like the use of it, when weather is nasty, too much of a condition that I wouldn't want to subject the higher dollar lenses into ;)

I love the combination of 17-55mm IS + 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses and I shoot 90-95% of my imagery with this pair Here are my China galleries shot exclusively with these two lenses...

http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com/ (external link)

BTW: The gap between these two lenses is 55-70mm despite one being an EFS and the other being the EF. The equivalent focal length gap is 88mm to 112mm...

However you mention it, either true or equivalent focal lengths; I don't miss the gap between these two great lenses...

Using a pair of cameras with these two lenses really makes my outfit complete. I don't need to switch lenses in the field and always have the 17-200mm focal range at my finger trips (minus the gap between the focal lengths which I don't mind missing). I shot 1/3 of my China images with the 70-200L and the other 2/3 with the 17-55mm IS...

BTW: I use a 30D and a 40D. Lenses have a greater impact on image quality than the generation of DSLR you are using...

I also use the 17-55 and 70-200 most of the time. Sold my 28-135 and don't miss it. (I still have my 28-105 because it's not worth much money and it's a handy compact lens.)

The optical quality of the 28-135 is not up to the standard of the 17-55 and 70-200, either.
