Just out of curiousity, do you consider yourself a professional photographer or an amateur?

A lot of the pictures I see on here are definitely professional quality and not like mine all blurry and un-centered. LOL.

Most here are amature to serious amature tho they may say different.
Its not the photos , nor the talent but
the clients and the amount you make from them.

Couldn't even begin to think of myself as anything other than an amateur. Never sold an image and have never been commissioned to take photos for anyone.

Where is "beginner" on the list? Someone that has been shooting for a couple of months and is struggling with the basics can not call themselves an amateur. I wouldn't call myself a pro, but I don't necessarily like the work amateur either. I've shot some weddings and can take a decent picture for me it's still a hobby though. Having a full time day job kind of gets in the way.

Used to be able to pass for a pro (did quite a bit of work for money), but now I consider myself an amateur by choice :)

If you make money, it doesn't make you a pro - there are many self-proclaimed pros out there who are amateurs.

I make money taking pictures for a nightclub but I consider myself an amateur.

That's not hard. You are more or less a pro if you get paid for shooting photos. You are more of a pro if you have the skills to match it. Yes, you can call yourself a pro if all you shoot is from freelance journalism. I have more respect for you if your works are often used and shown in major magazines and publications. You are beyond pro if your works are being shown in galleries and museums. Anything else, you are either an amateur or advanced amateur.

I am an advanced amateur....

Those pros I don't have to envy them. They probably don't even know how to do portrait studio shots...:)

I voted amateur with no hesitation, as it has absolutely no bearing on the quality of the photographs I take.

It's just a label, mainly for those who seem to equate having a degree, the same as having intelligence...
