Apologies if this has already been discussed. A quick search didn't turn up anything obvious.

Is anyone that uses crop bodies using lens hoods that cover a narrower FOV than the recommended lens hoods for a lens? For example, the native lens hood for the EF 28 f/1.8 allows for the full 28mm FOV on a full frame body, but the FOV on crop is closer to 49mm so technically a lens hood made for 45-50mm lenses would make more sense, pending that one that fits is available, right?

EFs lenses aside, of course, as I assume that their hoods are already adjusted for their intended FOV.

Its nit-picky, I know, but I'm curious if anyone has been doing this or if there's anything out there with recommended hood adjustments for FF lenses on crop bodies.

Thanks!

Since I use a crop camera, I use longer hoods whenever I can:

I thought the 28mm 1.8 EW-63 hood looked a little anemic. I had a couple of old 3rd party hoods lying around so I glued an EW-63 inside an ET-65. I had to open up the rear of the ET-65 a little and also remove the "clips" to make it all work. It doesn't vignette on a 1.6 crop body, but it does on a full Frame.

It also can be reversed on the lens for storage.

I used the EW-83H hood from my 24-105L on the 17-40L when I used that lens on a 1.3X body. I seriously hate the wide hoods that come with the 17-40 and 16-35.

Lots of us use the EW-83J from the 17-55/2.8 on the 17-40L for 1.6x bodies.

I have the 10-22 , 17-55 and 70-200 . All use different hoods and depending on what I am shooting , I will you different hoods .
I have bought at least 5 different hoods .
An example would be at a school play - If I use a bigger hood I get vignetting - if I don't , I get flare from some one else's flash - bigger hood and crop .
I bigger hood reversed also protects more of lens

Wow, all of my online searches land me at old threads. If anyone is still interested, there's been some "research" (read:guess and check) on the subject here:Non-Standard Lens Hood Sizes for Canon (external link). Some of it looks promising and I think I'm going to try a longer lens hood than the standard OEM model.
