RRS L brackets and cable release

I have a 7D and am looking at getting RRS L bracket. I shoot a lot of low light, so I often use my cable release. I have never owned an L bracket, but it looks like the bracket really makes it tight for getting access to the door and inserting one's cable release.

Is this a problem or no problem???

They designed the bracket to enable access to the ports. If you want to use the camera in portrait orientation, you'll need to slide the L bracket out a smidgen so the release connector clears, but otherwise there won't be a problem.

It's not so much that the amount of finger-space granted by the bracket is too small but it's the combination of the small space plus the slight awkwardness of that rubber flap that needs to be prised up but then inevitably slips away out of your grasp and flaps itself shut again ... so you prise it open again and it's away again ... and all this in a tiddly thumb-space.

Did you lift up the flap all the way so that both the remote release socket and the PC socket are accessible? If you did, the rubber flap should stay open without it closing on you when you release your hold on it.

I bought the L bracket - no regrets - top notch workmanship.

For $30 you can get the wireless remote for the 7D. Works great.

Okay, decided to give it a try. Actually, the RRS web site was having problems, so I called. Got Joe Johnson (RRS President) on the phone and we discussed the design at length. I guess he's a good salesman.

Clearing the port isn't a problem, but on the 1D at least, clearing the rubber cap/protector is. I generally have to be mindful of packing it into a corner before going into portrait with a cable installed. I fear removing the rubber cap may wear down the brads that secure it or else I'd just take it off each time I used a cable.
